Monrovia, Calif. (April 1, 2011)—Naked® Juice, the super-premium juice maker known for using only the best bare-naked fruits and vegetables, extends its pursuit of quality beyond just the ingredients list through their significant sustainability initiatives and developments. Partnerships with non-profit organizations, sponsorship of environmental sustainability programs and recycled packaging developments are just a few of the ways that Naked Juice demonstrates its commitment to quality and sustainability in everything they do.
Keeping true to its core values of making superior products while minimizing the impact on the environment, in 2009, Naked Juice started working with Rainforest Alliance to procure its bananas, which are in 80 percent of Naked Juice products. Rainforest Alliance is an international nonprofit organization that works to ensure sustainable livelihoods for people, while protecting wildlife and the environment. Additionally, in 2010, Naked Juice announced its sponsorship support of RecycleBank and Keep America Beautiful, two organizations dedicated to improving the environment through recycling education. These partnerships further demonstrate Naked Juice’s commitment to sustainability and serve as a platform to educate consumers on the power of recycling virgin PET and understanding the environmental benefits of the reNEWabottle, Naked Juice’s 100-percent post-consumer recycled bottle.
Naked Juice initially unveiled the reNEWabottle in 2009 for its 32-oz. bottles—the first nationally distributed beverage to do so. The reNEWabottle (also known as rPET) is plastic coded #1, which is easily recycled and clear—showing off the vibrant juice inside. This bottle, essentially made from other bottles, provides juice lovers a clear view of its all-natural goodness. Currently, the transition to the reNEWabottle is 90-percent complete, with full evolution expected for late summer of 2011. A significant step for Naked Juice to reduce its overall carbon footprint, the transition to the reNEWabottle packaging will save 12,000 cubic meters of space in landfills, reduce virgin plastic consumption by 7.4 million pounds per year, and reduce the bottle’s greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent- the equivalent of saving more than 500,000 gallons of gas a year!
The reNEWabottle is part of an ongoing commitment by Naked Juice toward sustainability initiatives that will decrease the company’s impact on the environment. Reducing the carbon footprint is at the core of the brand’s innovation platform from production to product development. Naked Juice’s commitment to sourcing only the best fruits and vegetables also has strong, inherent carbon advantages. Naked Juice completed a full carbon lifecycle assessment and developed a comprehensive long-term plan to shrink its carbon footprint. In addition, Naked Juice recently rebuilt its manufacturing facility using state-of-the-art technology and has been awarded the prestigious LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The facility design incorporates energy- and water-efficiency characteristics that go well beyond the industry standard.
